Assistant Extension Professor/National Outreach Coordinator, Berryman Institute

Department Profile: Dept of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture currently has 32 faculty members (on and off campus), >50 graduate students, and 6 support staff. The department also oversees an Aquaculture Facility.
Position Function: This position will provide leadership for a nationwide outreach education program that deals with issues pertaining to human-wildlife conflict and professional development and education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The coordinator will develop aggressive and proactive noncredit educational programs for professionals that address current and future human-wildlife conflicts nationwide. Target audiences should include personnel with USDA APHIS Wildlife Services, wildlife professionals with other state and federal agencies, and non-wildlife professionals involved with human-wildlife conflicts. Educational programs will be implemented by working closely with faculty and professionals at Utah State University and Mississippi State University, as well as professionals and faculty nationwide. In particular, this position should interface closely with the Continuing Education Coordinator and with the Veterinary Pathologist outreach position at Berryman Institute-East to facilitate an effective and integrated outreach program nationally. This position will be responsible to and jointly evaluated regarding annual performance by the Co-Directors of the Berryman Institute located at Utah State University and Mississippi State University, respectively.
Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate with expertise in human-wildlife conflicts, human dimensions, or similar area. ABD's will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred candidates would have a scientific publication record; strong desire to lead a state, regional, and national level outreach program, university teaching experience, strong evidence of grantsmanship, strong desire to educate and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and conduct outreach and professional service in human-wildlife conflicts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Applicants are expected to continue and grow a strong national outreach program based on providing training and education to USDA/APHIS WS personnel, state and other agency personnel, and others in the human-wildlife conflicts field.

Human–Wildlife Interactions
The Jack Berryman Institute has decided to
change the name of its peer-reviewed journal
from Human–Wildlife Conflicts to Human–Wildlife
Interactions to better reflect the journal’s expanded
mission of publishing papers dealing with the
management of wildlife. This change will occur
beginning with the volume four, number 1, spring
2010, issue.
“If you have written an applied article on the
management of wildlife or human–wildlife
conflicts, please consider publishing it in Human–Wildlife Interactions,” said Michael Conover, editor.
